The state: Kerala is the most literate of all Indian states. It has health care systems that are on a par with the best in the world, India’s lowest infant mortality and highest life expectancy rates. It is peaceful, relatively clean and enjoys a physical quality of life not very common elsewhere in the country.

Language: Malayalam is the main language of communication, though English is commonly used in business circles. Both languages are taught in schools and universities. Tamil and Hindi are widely understood—albeit not often spoken.

Climate: Mainly tropical. Summer extends from February to May (24 to 33 degrees Celsius, 75 to 92 degrees Fahrenheit), followed by a robust monsoon between June and September (22 to 28 degrees Celsius, 72 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit), and a rather mild winter from October to January (22 to 32 degrees Celsius, 72 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit). In effect, the seasons are warm and rainy.

Cuisine: The cuisine has a multitude of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, which go with rice, and tend to be on the spicy side. Grated coconut and coconut milk are widely used in dishes and curries, while the state’s long coastline provides fish and delicacies from the deep.

Getting there: The Cochin International Airport is about 35 km (18 miles) away from Hinterlaand. It handles both domestic and international flights.  Kochi is also easily accessible by rail. The main railway stations are Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town, 22 km (12 miles) from Mulanthuruthy.  Kochi is also one of India’s major ports and is well connected to the rest of the country by road.
We can pick you up from the airport, a railway station, or any other place in Kochi city, and drop you off as well.

Here's a rough but ready map of where Hinterlaand is.
